Product Description
From the award-winning audio drama team that brought you Radio Theatre’s Amazing Grace and The Chronicles of Narnia. In his enduringly popular masterpiece The Screwtape Letters, C. S. Lewis re-imagines Hell as a gruesome bureaucracy. With spiritual insight and wry wit, Lewis suggests that demons, laboring in a vast enterprise, have horribly recognizable human attributes: competition, greed, and totalitarian punishment. Avoiding their own painful torture as well as a desire to dominate are what drive demons to torment their “patients.”
The style and unique dark humor of The Screwtape Letters are retained in this full-cast dramatization, as is the original setting of London during World War II. The story is carried by the senior demon Screwtape played magnificently by award-winning actor Andy Serkis (“Gollum” in Lord of the Rings) as he shares correspondence to his apprentice demon Wormwood. All 31 letters lead into dramatic scenes, set in either Hell or the real world with humans—aka “the patient,” as the demons say—along with his circle of friends and family. This Radio Theatre release also stars Geoffrey Palmer (Tomorrow Never Dies), Laura Michelle Kelly (Sweeney Todd), Eileen Page (The Secret Garden), and other world-class actors.
Includes 10 new songs inspired by the classic book, four behind-the-scenes video documentary featurettes, and a 5.1 surround sound mix. Four CDs, approx. 4 hours total.

5 out of 5 stars If only I could select 6 stars out of 5   August 28, 2010
P. Johnson (Chicago, IL)
The written work is of course one of great popularity in christian literature, but this dramatization, read by such fantastic voices and believable background soundtrack, leads to a retelling with more imagination than most readers can muster in the sit-down time with a paper copy. I have listened to this audio presentation 4 times within the last year (I'm not the type to re-listen to one thing regularly), and it makes it hard, in many ways, to go back to a normal audiobook. I think about how this could be turned into a movie, and not because it could be done any better than this dramatized reading, but because the power and weight of the message may be able to reach such a larger audience if it went to cinema. As a believer one could say I am biased to the wisdom of this book, but I really would have a hard time believing that even the most calloused heart would not be moved by this work and even more so this radio theater presentation.

Great!!! Will buy from the person again! The book is good, but kinda hard to follow sometimes due to the 'English/British' accent...but the tapes have helped out in that area.
It gives you something to think about! And it has humor!!!

I love the audio tape. I HIGHLY recommend it to ages 12 and above since it is quite authentic in its background effects.

This is a great audio/theatrical version of a very famous book. It was all that I expected and more. I'm not a ardent reader and have trouble reading for pleasure but this is one that I've tried to read several times and failed. What "Focus on The Family" has done is give this classic book life for people like me. Thank you.

5 out of 5 stars FABULOUS!   June 14, 2010

This is fabulous and entertaining. Timeless and the dramatization is done remarkably well. I highly recommend this one. We own a few of the focus on the family radio theatre productions and have been VERY happy. Fun for kids and adults. The other titles we enjoy are The Chronicles of Narnia and The Christmas Carol. I own more titles and will be getting them out for future road trips. I can hardly wait!
